However, there are many factors that support the two roles on a project. Both roles ensure that the need is clearly articulated, but because the person who articulates the business need usually ends up owning the project and the end product, it should be someone representing the business.

When the two are in synch, the business analyst has no trouble representing the project manager's view to the customer and the project manager has a clear view of the product that will solve the customer's problem. Lots of aspiring product managers want to know the answer to these questions.

They are responsible for maintaining a product backlog that describes the product that must continue to fit with the requirements of the business. The manager leads the team towards implementing needed change, while the analyst provides leadership in order to ensure the expected quality of change.
